Explore the intensity of your feelings (1 minute read)

This post “Increase your self-esteem by exploring the intensity of your feelings” continues with how you can increase your self-esteem by getting to know yourself.

Explore the intensity of your feelings:

The last post was about the intensity of feelings which can be labelled on a scale ‘cold’ to ‘hot’ depending on how much arousal they generate in our nervous system.

Some specific examples:

A low level of anger is the ‘cold’ level irritation while fury is ‘hot’

Happiness ranges from ‘cold’ satisfaction to ‘hot’ joy and ecstasy

Fear from ‘cold’ concerned’ to ‘hot’ terror

Sadness from ‘cold’ sorrow/blues to ‘hot’ despair

Surprise from ‘cold’ curiosity to ‘hot’ chock

Disgust from ‘cold’ offense to ‘hot’ revulsion

Hence, how we evaluate the situation affects both what we feel and how strong the physical reaction will be.
