Feelings are very important to our existence: to understand ourselves, take care of ourselves and to interact with others.<\/p>\n

There is to date no agreement among researchers and scientists on the definition of feelings and the actual number of innate feelings we have. The researcher Silvan Tomkins has had a great impact in the research field. He has identified 9 innate feelings which are either\u00a0rewarding, punishing or neutral with the purpose to create a sense of urgency in us in order to:<\/p>\n

  1. Bring situations and things to our attention<\/li>\n
  2. Motivate us to act in a certain way.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
