Feelings correspond to behavioural and motivational impulses that are important for our survival and for signalling our human needs to us.<\/p>\n

Panksepp\u2019s has identified three types of major emotional systems:<\/p>\n

1 The dominating \u2018threat and self-protection\u2019-system<\/strong> to fight for survival<\/p>\n

2 The stimuli and resource-seeking, \u2018drive-excitement\u2019-system<\/strong><\/p>\n

3 The \u2018contentment and safeness\u2019-system<\/strong> to recover<\/p>\n

The threat system is often the main cause of stress. It is also activated as a consequence when the body has been overly stimulated by the drive and excitement system, without enough recovery in between.<\/p>\n

The system notices the body\u2019s inability to cope with prolonged stress. Often this is shown as vague injuries and other physiological problems due to stress hormones.<\/p>\n

The system starts fearing the person\u2019s inability to get rid of the source of the stress and produces even worse symptoms to force the person to rest.<\/p>\n

Common symptoms are panic attacks, dizziness and nausea.<\/p>\n
