Last post was about why it is difficult to change habits, behavioral patterns and hence realize your goals. One reason is that we humans simply forget our new goals when life moves on as usual.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Better self-esteem: Why we easily forget our important goals<\/strong><\/h2>\n

There are many possible explanations for why we often lose track of our goals and new behaviors. One is that we tend to automate much of our daily behaviors. We tend to do this since automatic behaviors normally is an efficient way of using our resources and energy.<\/p>\n

Imagine if we had to figure out how to ride a bike or drive a car every time we would like to take a ride?<\/p>\n

Another reason for us to forget our goals and new behaviors is that it is easy to forget newly learnt things due to mental overload. Being stressed makes this even more likely since stress makes us switch to our autopilot to save decision-making effort, energy and time.<\/p>\n

Hence, to forget is common for new behaviors that have not been automated. This is especially likely when we are stressed or faced with difficult trade-offs.<\/p>\n
