This post “Increase your self-esteem by self-compassion that reduces shame” continues with how you can increase your self-esteem by listening to your feelings and heal self-destructive shame.
Increase your self-esteem by self-compassion that reduces shame:
One way of reducing self-critical shame is to become more self-compassionate.
The last posts have been about shame and 5 steps for healing the negative injuries of too much and self-critical shame, including important reflections, strategies and exercises based on Compassion Focused Therapy, CFT.
Building blocks of Compassion Focused Therapy, CFT:
Some of the important insights and building blocks that are helpful are:
1) A changed perspective and tone towards oneself:
-being more self-compassionate and understanding of oneself, especially when experiencing set-backs.
-being gentler and have a gradual view of development of oneself not to create trauma or too much suffering when exposed to difficult situations, such as holding a speech or trying an anxiety evoking activity.
2) The focus on common humanity: the importance of the evolution and learnt adaptive behaviors as well as the inevitable tragic aspects of life, that suffering and losses are inevitable experiences of being a human when suffering losses or experiencing accidents or set-backs.
