Increase your self-esteem by being attentive to the tone of others
An inner critical voice, the inner critic, often exaggerates in a condescending, judgmental and destructive way.
It is definitely not the way we talk to our friends, colleagues or family members.
Also, talking back to this voice is important for mental health and healthy self-esteem but more difficult than it seems.
Try this:
Pay attention during the day to which language others use towards you and themselves.
Then try to respond quietly in your head in a more uplifting way.
If someone jokes about you and it is not the time to protest aloud, you can quietly answer yourself:
“I talk supportively to myself and others. Not protesting right now does not mean I accept it.”
When someone says something negative about themselves, you can answer them:
“You have done your best and have good intentions. That’s all you can ask for. Be kind towards yourself.”
