This post continues with how you can manage tough life situations like this crisis by changing your attitude. You can do this by developing your sense of coherence and its dimensions:
Understandable
Manageable
Meaningful
The previous post was about how you can try to create more meaning in your life and feel better despite the fact that cruel crises such as this one can be perceived as completely meaningless. You do not have to want to be in this with all its horrible consequences. But you can decide how much the virus will be allowed to steal from you beyond the minimum possible by working on your attitude and priorities. You can decide how you want to develop given that you cannot opt out of the crisis or the changes we must live with.
What could you change to prevent the virus from stealing more than necessary in your life?
How would you like to develop in the coming weeks given the limitations that exist?

Working on increasing the experienced meaningfulness in your own life has according to research the most important positive effects on health. If you do not believe that there is any reason to continue and face challenges, if what is happening has no meaning, you will have low motivation to reshape and manage events.
If it is difficult to see any meaning with a destructive virus, you can instead think about:
– How can I make sense of this crisis even if I do not want it to be this way?
– What is meaningful to me and in my life now when life looks the way it does? What makes me happy? What gives me energy?
– What drags me down that I can change or influence?
– What have I learned during this period that I might not otherwise have learned?
– Are there any positive effects that the crisis has had on my life?
More about this in next post.

Meaningful includes a belief that:
– Things in life are interesting, satisfying and valuable, which makes you motivated to be active.
– There are good reasons or purposes to be involved in life and care about what happens.
Reason and purpose can be created by getting involved and trying to understand the situation. This is how new opportunities often arise. For example, you can get inspiration and ideas that open new doors and create opportunities to help others and yourself. By helping, meaning is created and sometimes also the feeling that we belong together, which creates meaning in itself.
How can you keep up with what is happening in this crisis at a reasonable level? How can you be more active? Who can you help? Who is allowed to help you? In which other ways can you get involved? More about this in next post.

– There are good reasons or purposes to be involved in life and care about what happens.
Make sure you have interesting and stimulating activities both indoors and outdoors. Now is a good time to find a new hobby – preferably one where you use your hands. Make an effort to test a new activity every week. Start with the ones you did as young. Then you can continue with the activities your relatives and friends do.

Manageable
Meaningful
Manageable means a belief that:
– We have the skills, abilities, support, help or resources needed to handle the situation.
– Things are manageable and within our control.
According to research, an important way to increase the sense of manageability is to be more active in our daily environment. It can be doing things that you have not planned, preferably something symbolic that you see every day, such as:
Making the bed.
Cultivate seeds.
Clean up a messy place.
If you want an even better effect, you should have a list of such small projects visible and mark the completed activity. This has a great effect on the experience of control over our everyday lives. Also, it proves that you actually are trying to make a difference.

Manageable means a belief that:

What is manageable?
What is difficult to handle?
Who can you talk to about this?
Who can you ask for advice and inspiration?
What can you do to make the situation more manageable?

Understandable means having a belief that:
– Things happen in an orderly and predictable way. ‘
– We can understand events in our lives and reasonably predict what will happen in the future.
This post continues with the understandable consequences of a crisis on our well-being.
During a crisis, we find ourselves in different stages of the crisis curve. The crisis curve usually consists of the following stages. Individuals need different amount of time to get through each phase – hours – days – weeks – months – even years:
Stage 1: Shock & denial of what has happened and the related consequences.
Stage 2: Anger often aimed in several directions.
Stage 3: Dealing / trying to undo and alter the consequences of the crisis.
Stage 4: Despair and resignation when you realize the inevitable consequences.
Stage 5: Acceptance of the new reality after reviewing and reconciling the consequences of the crisis and the acute phases.
Stage 6: New orientation – life is no longer directly adversely affected by the obstacles of the crisis.
More about this in the next post.

Understandable means having a belief that:
– Things happen in an orderly and predictable way.
– We can understand events in our lives and reasonably predict what will happen in the future.
For these crises, these two beliefs can be difficult to agree with. Last post was about how the origins of the crisis can be viewed as understandable.
Maybe we can understand what is happening on a more human level – how our reactions are understandable:

Previous posts have dealt with how you can handle tough life situations like this by changing your attitude, more specifically, your sense of coherence and its dimensions: Understandable, manageable and meaningful.
Understandable means having a belief that:
For these crises, these two beliefs can be difficult to agree with.
But we can see crises as a sign that we have fallen out of pace with nature and its cycles.
Crises spread in a partially organized and predictable way after systems have been disrupted.
Maybe we live too close and too vulnerable?
Maybe we should see the crisis as something to learn from – that nature shows how we need to change our way of life and live more in harmony with nature.
Treat animals much better.
More mindful living, more space and room for each other, for animals and closer to pure nature.
We can impact this by making better choices already today.
