This post continues with how you can manage tough life situations like this crisis by changing your attitude. You can do this by developing your sense of coherence and its dimensions:
Understandable
Manageable
Meaningful
Working on increasing the experienced meaningfulness in your own life has according to research the most important positive effects on health. If you do not believe that there is any reason to continue and face challenges, if what is happening has no meaning, you will have low motivation to reshape and manage events.
If it is difficult to see any meaning with a destructive virus, you can instead think about:
– How can I make sense of this crisis even if I do not want it to be this way?
– What is meaningful to me and in my life now when life looks the way it does? What makes me happy? What gives me energy?
– What drags me down that I can change or influence?
– What have I learned during this period that I might not otherwise have learned?
– Are there any positive effects that the crisis has had on my life?

]]>Here continues the post on how you can handle tough life situations like this crisis by changing your attitude. You can do this by developing your sense of coherence and its dimensions:
Understandable
Manageable
Meaningful
Meaningful includes a belief that:
– Things in life are interesting, satisfying and valuable, which makes you motivated to be active.
– There are good reasons or purposes to be involved in life and care about what happens.
Reason and purpose can be created by getting involved and trying to understand the situation. This is how new opportunities often arise. For example, you can get inspiration and ideas that open new doors and create opportunities to help others and yourself. By helping, meaning is created and sometimes also the feeling that we belong together, which creates meaning in itself.
How can you keep up with what is happening in this crisis at a reasonable level? How can you be more active? Who can you help? Who is allowed to help you? In which other ways can you get involved? More about this in next post.

You can do this by developing your sense of coherence and its dimensions:
Manageable means a belief that:
– We have the skills, abilities, support, help or resources needed to handle the situation.
– Things are manageable and within our control.
What is manageable?
What is difficult to handle?
Who can you talk to about this?
Who can you ask for advice and inspiration?
What can you do to make the situation more manageable?

Understandable means having a belief that:
– Things happen in an orderly and predictable way.
– We can understand events in our lives and reasonably predict what will happen in the future.
For these crises, these two beliefs can be difficult to agree with. Last post was about how the origins of the crisis can be viewed as understandable.
Maybe we can understand what is happening on a more human level – how our reactions are understandable:

Understandable means having a belief that:
For these crises, these two beliefs can be difficult to agree with.
But we can see crises as a sign that we have fallen out of pace with nature and its cycles.
Crises spread in a partially organized and predictable way after systems have been disrupted.
Maybe we live too close and too vulnerable?
Maybe we should see the crisis as something to learn from – that nature shows how we need to change our way of life and live more in harmony with nature.
Treat animals much better.
More mindful living, more space and room for each other, for animals and closer to pure nature.
We can impact this by making better choices already today.

This post is about how to feel better by developing your vulnerable spots This is another way to tackle the question:
What can you do when you are forced to stay at home for a longer time period during these times?
Previous posts have dealt with how you can handle tough life situations like this by changing your attitude, more specifically, your sense of coherence.
Antonovsky’s research indicates that it is our resources that enable us to understand and handle challenges. With the successful use of our resources, over time we can also develop an attitude that is a resource in itself. This resource is useful when we have to deal with stressful situations. In addition, this resource strengthens our self-confidence and therefore also our self-esteem.
The previous post was about identifying which 3 vulnerable areas you have where you think you would feel better if you strengthened them. Now consider each of these 3 areas:

Here continues my answer to the question:
What can you do when you are forced to stay at home for a longer time period during these times?
Earlier posts have been about how to deal with negative and worrying thoughts by changing your attitude, more specifically, your sense of coherence and how you can try to find new contexts.
All humans face challenges. Now, we all have to use our resources to cope with this crisis, such as money, self-sufficiency and social support. Antonovsky’s research indicates that it is our resources that enable us to understand and manage events. With the successful use of our different resources, over time we can develop an attitude that is a resource in itself.
This resource is our belief in our ability to deal with stressful situations which also develops our self-esteem.
The last post was about identifying the resources and vulnerable areas you have to deal with this crisis:
1 Physical health
2 Mental health
3 Supportive relationships
4 Social activities
5 Hobbies
6 Necessary support: healthcare, etc.
7 Money / finances
8 Work / study
9 Sources of information
10 Personal development & contributions to society / non-profit organizations.
Now select the 3 areas where you think you are the most vulnerable and where you think you would feel better if you strengthened your resources.

All humans face challenges. Now, we all have to use our resources to cope with a crisis like this, such as money, self-sufficiency and social support. There is a risk that our coping mechanisms will fail if the sense of coherence is not robust with regard to the current situation. This can in turn lead to stress and illness. If the sense of coherence is high, the stress source such as Corona will not necessarily be harmful. Therefore, according to Antonovsky’s research, a balance is needed between what is stressful and what resources one has, as this will determine whether a stressful situation becomes harmful, neutral or contributes to our health.
To think about:
Identify which resources and vulnerable areas you have to deal with this crisis by evaluating how you are doing in the following areas. Use the scale: 1 = very bad, 2 = pretty bad, 3 = moderate, 4 = pretty good, 5 = very good:
1 Physical health
2 Mental health
3 Supportive relationships
4 Social activities
5 Hobbies
6 Necessary support: healthcare, etc.
7 Money / economy
8 Work / study
9 Sources of information
10 Personal development & contributions to society / non-profit organizations.

What can you do when you are forced to stay at home for a longer time period during these times?
Earlier posts have been about how to deal with negative and worrying thoughts by changing your attitude, more specifically, your sense of coherence and how you can try to find new contexts. For the upcoming weekend, I suggest you visit your special place – your oasis – as soon as possible to develop your sense of coherence.
What do you want to bring?
What do you want to do there?
Consider taking a picture of the place and perhaps bring a symbol such as a nice stone home, so that you can have your new context visible in your daily life.
